American Kidney Services (AKS) is the Georgia partner of American Kidney Fund (AKF). AKF is one of the Top Three charities in the country where 97 cents of every dollar goes to helping kidney patients with financial aid, including the cost of dialysis, transportation and other expenses. AKS raises money by collecting used clothes and household goods via free home pick-up, manned trucks in recycle centers and shopping malls as well as 400+ donation bins throughout the Metro-Atlanta area. For more than 100 years, Scouting has helped build future leaders by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun and adventure in the outdoors. The Atlanta Area Council, Boy Scouts of America cares passionately about what is happening to kids and our communities – and are dedicated to supporting an exciting, quality program that builds better young people and our future leaders.

BSA programs are divided by age and activity: Cub Scouting is for boys and girls in kindergarten through 5^th grade, Scouts BSA is open to young men and young women in grades 6 through 12, and co-ed Venturing are available for young men and young women age 14 through 20. The BSA also offers career-oriented co-ed Exploring programs to youth age 10 through 20. 

Traditional Scouting programs are operated by local chartering organizations, such as religious institutions, clubs, civic associations, and educational organizations, which implement the Scouting program for youth within their communities. From our beginning, most of our children have come from within the State of Georgia. Occasionally, we receive a call regarding a child living out of state but with some family connection in our general area who knows of us and asks if we will help their family. However, recently our children have primarily come from the greater Atlanta area.

Over the past three years Calvary has averaged 25 residents in our long-term Traditional Care Program and approximate 5-6 residents in our Transitional Program. For 55 years each child in our care has had a custom plan of care that is followed by our Houseparents and Program Director. Calvary has served over 400 children since our founding in 1966. Over the last three years our staff has been responsible for implementing the custom plan of care for each child in their care-making adjustments where necessary-while focusing on the long-term emotional, physical, and spiritual health of each child. Custom plans of care include Residential Care, Social Services, Spiritual Development, Educational Opportunities, Counseling Services, Medical Services and Recreational Activities (scholastic, community, etc.) Calvary has also been responsible for providing 82,125 meals to our children over the last three years.

Over the last three years our plan of care has produced multiple high school graduates, allowed four residents to enter college, one resident enrolled in FAA mechanics program, one Marine, one in the United States Navy and one of our youngest to ever enter the care of the Home graduate college, marry, have a child of her own and become a Child Safety Investigator for DFACs in Jacksonville, FL. We are pleased to add that during the pandemic we were able to add two more children into our long-term care program.

Calvary’s focus on long-term care and the low turnover of the children in our care and staff has resulted in measurable improvement, stability and growth in their emotional development, spiritual development, academic performance, community involvement and personal relationships in accordance with the custom plan of care being implemented daily with each child.

The Cobb Community Foundation (“CCF”) was created in 1993 by a group of Cobb County business leaders to make it easy for everyone to give back to their community.

CCF provides multiple vehicles through which individuals, families, businesses and other organizations can contribute cash, marketable securities, real estate and other assets for charitable purposes. Donor Advised Funds allow most of the functionality of a private, family or corporate foundation without the corresponding complexities and costs.

You can create a Donor Advised Fund with as little as $5,000 with the completion of single form. You add to that fund whenever you choose, and with every contribution, you receive immediate tax benefits.

You can recommend which IRS-qualified public charities will receive grants from your Donor Advised Fund, when and in what amounts. You can even decide who will make those recommendations when you are no longer able to do so. Donor Advised Funds be funded with cash, although it often makes more sense to use low-basis assets or in some cases even real estate or closely-held business interests.

Likewise, these funds are often created in high income years, such as years when deferred comp is recognized, or real estate or other assets sold at a gain. While Donor Advised Funds can give to any public charity, including those outside of Cobb County, there are no requirements for when these grants must be made, giving the donor whatever time is needed to make those decisions.

A Scholarship Fund can be an ideal mechanism for companies, service clubs and other organizations to support the education of employees, family members of employees and other students meeting the selection criteria established. The Cobb Community Foundation can guide you through the process of defining your criteria, creating your application, appointing your selection committee, and evaluating and notifying your candidates. Likewise, we can simply handle all of it for you, if you would prefer.

A Designated Fund allows you to support a designated charity and make it easy for others to do so, as well. You can participate in decisions regarding the timing and amount of payments from the fund to your designated charity or simply have the Cobb Community Foundation coordinate those decisions with the charitable beneficiary.

Designated Funds are often created as endowments, although that is not a requirement. A Field of Interest Fund supports a particular cause, such as the arts, animal welfare, education or homelessness. Like a Designated Fund does for a single organization, a Field of Interest Fund makes it easy for you and others to ensure that resources are available to support those initiatives and organizations which focus on the causes that matter most to you.

Field of Interest Funds can be endowed or non-endowed. Unrestricted Funds are the choice of donors who want their gifts to address the community’s changing needs, both now and for generations to come. When you create a community endowment, or give to an existing one, you know that your gift will be available when and where it is needed most.

Cobb County Department of Family and Children Services is the part of Georgia DHS that investigates child abuse; finds foster homes for abused and neglected children; helps low income, out-of-work parents get back on their feet; assists with child care costs for low income parents who are working; and provides numerous support services and innovative programs to help troubled families.

Founded in 2003, The Cobb County Public Library Foundation (Cobb Library Foundation for short) is a not-for-profit, tax-exempt organization that provides support to the Cobb County Public Library System by raising funds and seeking other contributions from the community and business partnerships.

The East Cobb County Council of PTAs (ECCC PTA) is made up of 35 local PTAs, whose volunteers offer their time, energy and skill to support our teachers and principals to give our children an excellent education. There are over 28,000 PTA members in East Cobb. Our PTA members are parents, grandparents, students, teachers, school administrators and community and business partners. We have a shared goal that our children receive a high-quality education so that they may reach their highest potential.

The Extension is the leading provider of residential treatment services for homeless, addicted men and women in the state of Georgia. We are a licensed and accredited, community-supported, non-profit organization making a real difference and lasting difference in the lives of those we serve. Our vision is to become the replicable model of success in our community and beyond for the prevention, intervention and treatment of chemical dependency for those without the ability to pay.

Governed by a Board of Directors, the Georgia National Guard Family Support Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) corporation established in 1994 to provide emergency relief assistance during times of financial crisis to the members and families of the Georgia National Guard, federal/state civilian employees of the Georgia Department of Defense and other qualified military members living in the State of Georgia. Although not a military organization, the Foundation is recognized as an official support organization of the Georgia National Guard.

Girls Inc. of Greater Atlanta is nonprofit youth development organization that focuses on "Inspiring all girls to be Strong, Smart & Bold. "Serving Cobb County and the Greater Atlanta area for 43 years, Girls inc. of Greater Atlanta has provided "Pro-Girl" programming to over 1110,000 amazing young ladies. Through our After-School, Summer, School and Community based programs, we present interactive curriculum that promotes academics, healthy social emotional learning and girl empowerment through advocacy.

The Good Samaritan Health Center of Cobb is a community health center serving low income patients and families. Our mission is to spread the love of Christ by providing quality healthcare to those in need, and we joyfully minister to the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of our patients.

Foster youth deserve better. Because of the trauma and abuse many experience, they face daunting statistics: low graduation rates, high rates of incarceration, homelessness, substance abuse, and unemployment. Many foster youth grow up to repeat the same cycle of abuse and neglect that put them in foster care. Goshen Valley is working to change this reality. Our mission is to provide hope and healing to foster youth and vulnerable families to cultivate personal healing and generational change. The 120+ kids in our residential programs each day are experiencing, for the first time, the safety of a home, the love of a family, and the hope of a future. Our residential programs consist of the top-rated group home in Georgia for teenage boys, foster homes where we reunite sibling groups, and a program for 18 to 21-year-old foster youth who have chosen to remain in care for a few extra years of support. Additionally, Goshen has launched a community therapeutic services program that provides mental health services to vulnerable families. Goshen Valley is fully accredited by the Council on Accreditation, was named an AJC Top Workplace in 2021-2022, is a North Point Ministries Intersect Partner, and maintains a Guidestar Platinum Seal of Transparency.

Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Metro Atlanta is part of a global, nonprofit housing organization operated on Christian principles and is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and worldwide through constructing and rehabilitating homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions. Each new NW Metro Atlanta Habitat house generates $257,000 in new revenue to the local community throughout the duration of the 25-year mortgage.

Reflection of Trinity’s vision is to build stronger communities through service and to be the leading model nonprofit in the fight against hunger, assuring that no family goes hungry. This is accomplished all while keeping an eye to continually adding services and programs to better meet the plethora of challenges at-risk and marginalized families face daily.

The organization is the brainchild of Founder Laurie Wong, who felt a calling in 2000 to respond to the benevolent needs of her community. At that time, there were no other charitable programs or active nonprofits serving her neighbors in Powder Springs, a community surrounded by those struggling with poverty and need. Used clothing drives to distribute items to the poor and thrift community sales benefitted hundreds of impoverished households. Community support and a growing volunteer base resulted in opening a brick-and- mortar Reflections of Trinity Thrift Store in 2003. In addition to selling donated items to secure program funding, the thrift shop was an opportunity for those in need to receive clothing, furniture, and household necessities at no charge – and with dignity.

Joined by dedicated volunteers, Reflections continued to aid other nonprofits with meals and resources, supporting the missions of Safehouse Outreach, Seven Bridges and other agencies working to alleviate hunger and poverty in the Atlanta area, preparing and serving over 3,000 meals each year, over a decade, to the homeless. Reflections has always been the very essence of meaningful community collaboration; faithfully aiding individuals and sister nonprofit organization wherever and whenever there was a need. In 2005 when thousands were displaced by Hurricane Katrina and came to Cobb County, Reflections donated the entire inventory of the thrift shop to victims in need. Again in 2009, when nearby Austell was struck with horrific floods, causing hundreds to lose their homes, Reflections temporarily closed the thrift store to offer it as a centralized donation center. All the contents of the store were given to flood victims, depleting the entire store.

The community responded in kind after this generous outpouring: the inventory was completely replenished within two months after giving it all away.

Over the years, Reflections has been a first responder in every major hurricane in the U.S. and abroad, transporting thousands of food items, bottled water and human essentials to the people of Haiti after the 2010 earthquake, as well as over 26,000 lbs. of water, diapers, and necessities to Puerta Rico residents in 2017 after a hurricane ravaged that island. Reflections has been quietly on the forefront of every major disaster since its inception. Most recently, Reflections reacted with speed to the devastation in Florida caused by Hurricane Ian in late September 29=022 and sent 8 pallets of water--—13,824 bottles of water-- to displaced Floridians.

Depleting the thrift store inventory in response to Hurricane Katrina was the catalyst that led to another opportunity to raise funds for the community. Reflections’ leadership saw the opportunity for increased funding through online used product sales, leading them to the Internet in 2005 to launch the Reflections of Trinity eBay store. It quickly gained traction and was even recognized in 2016 by eBay as the Grand Prize Winner of the inaugural “eBay Shine Awards” for charitable community impact and business performance on the eBay platform. Online sales allow for a national and international audience, expanding the organization’s footprint significantly across the globe. Reflections is often called upon to consult on best practices and successful online sales for nonprofits.

With the combined retail and online sales success fueling nearly all the organization’s funding, Reflections established the Reflections Food Pantry adjacent to the retail store in 2012, providing healthy and free groceries to those in need in Powder Springs and surrounding communities. Over the last 10 years, the food pantry has grown in scope, volunteers and supporting partners, distributing fresh and nonperishable food to over 500,000 individuals, an estimated 10,000,000,000 lbs. of food. A dedicated and robust volunteer network supports over 1,200 families each week with three distinct food programs providing a healthy assortment of perishables and non-perishables from each food group to young and old, ensuring that no household struggles with food insecurity. In June 2021, the food pantry gained an additional 6,000 sq. ft. by converting the retail thrift store into a new food pantry space to adequately serve our existing clients and expand our community reach in underserved regions. The thrift store downsized to 1,500 sq. ft and remains in the same retail center.

Although not widely known, today Reflections provides more food to Cobb County’s hungry than any other nonprofit organization in the region. In 2021, the pantry distributed close to 3 million lbs. of food, serving over 55,000 unique individuals. The organization is on track to surpass that number in 2022, in large part due to the ongoing residual economic impact of COVID on the area’s working poor, as well as skyrocketing food prices. Today Reflections provides food to over 6,900 unique individuals each month and has served 39 Georgia Counties.

Food insecurity refers to a household that lacks access to enough food--and only limited or irregular availability of nutritious foods, for each member of the household to be adequately nourished and healthy. The relationship between food, economic security, and public health is interrelated. When family incomes drop, food insecurity rates rise, directly impacting health and nutrition. According to the USDA, more than 34 million people, including 9 million children, in the United States are food insecure. Many households that experience food insecurity do not qualify for federal nutrition programs and must visit their local food banks and rely other food programs to combat hunger.

The number of children experiencing hunger in our community is frightening. The most recent census data (2020) for the metro Atlanta region’s 29 counties estimate that 11% of children are food insecure and 16% of children face going to school hungry each day. The Atlanta Community’s Food Bank finds that those statistics have not improved. An estimated 53% of Georgia public-school students will qualify for and truly need free lunches during the 2022-2023 school year.

Located in Powder Springs in the South Cobb County region often referred to as the “Red Zone” due to high under and unemployment, low earnings, hunger and Title 1 schools with dismal literacy and graduation rates, Reflection’s primary focus is serving those living in surrounding Powder Springs neighborhoods. But no one in need is ever turned away when seeking aid and encounter data gathered remarkably reflects that residents of 39 unique Georgia counties have turned to Reflections of Trinity for aid. In addition to Cobb, the highest concentration of Georgians benefitting from food distribution and Reflections of Trinity’s largest food distribution initiative occurs each Saturday and is open to the public, 8:30 am – 12:00 pm. Food is distributed via a volunteer-manned, drive-through format.
Each client/family receives an 85-100 lbs. box of assorted fresh and non-perishable foods, (fruits, vegetables, bread, meat, snacks, and canned goods), It is estimated the contents of the box could sustain an individual for a week or more, and 3 days or more for a family of four.

Most of the food is sourced from the Atlanta Community Food Bank (ACFB) where Reflections is ranked as one of the top 3 food distribution agencies in the ACFB distribution region.

Each month, approximately 2300 unique families/individuals receive food through our efforts. There are an estimated 852,574 in the 29-county metro Atlanta area experiencing food insecurity, according to the Inspire Foundation and the Georgia Senate Food Insecurity Roundtable. Reflections of Trinity is effectively feeding nearly 28,000 of them each year and are only limited in aiding the rest by the available donations of dollars and goods.

The Smyrna Public Safety Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, providing support to the dedicated Smyrna Public Safety Personnel within the City of Smyrna. The Smyrna Public Safety Foundation raises funds through the generous support of our community and businesses, to supply additional equipment and services to our Public Safety Agencies. In turn, this aids in creating a positive impact for our first responders and the City of Smyrna.
